Simple Steps To Limit The Toxins In Your Home
Sunday, May 4th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedToxins have a large impact on rate at which we age. These are agents that harm or poison our body and many are introduced from the environment that we live in. Surprisingly most can be found in our homes, with this being the case the good news is that we can make small changes that will have huge impacts on our over all health.
1. Always remove your foot wear at the door. This simply act will stop toxins from being tracked through your house and being trapped in your carpet. You may not personally use such things as lawn pesticides or fertilizers but you do not know what others are using.
2. Do not use plastic containers in your microwave, when plastic is heated small particles do end up in your food.
3. Remove unused portions of canned foods from the can and store in a glass container instead. The epoxy resin and aluminum does end up leaching into the food once opened. If you have even tried eating food from a opened can that has been in the fridge you will notice a metallic taste, this is not good.
4. Avoid dishwasher soaps and cleansers that contain phosphates, chlorine, or NPE. Many of our house hold cleaners have been proven to hormonally change (feminize) fish in the areas we dump our waste so what they can do to our bodies our time is unknown. Glycol ethers found in carpet and fabric spot cleaners which can be introduced to our bodies by inhalation or absorbed through our skin have been known to cause kidney and liver damage as well as numerous blood disorders.
Try using green concentrated products or good old vinegar. Green products may seem more expensive but this actually is not true since they last much longer because they are concentrated and you only need to use very small amounts. If you like using room deodorizers try using a natural product for instance essential oils.
5. Dust mites produce approximately one pound of excrement per year which they leave in your pillows and mattresses. There is a direct link between this excrement and asthma. You can purchase 1 micron pore sheets and pillow case to help protect your bed, however it is recommended that you replace your pillows every 12 - 24 months. Directly vacuuming your mattress on regular basis also helps to keep the mites under control.
6. Use a Hepa air filter in your home to remove particles from the air. Heater filters should be replaced every three months, air conditioner filters should be replaced yearly and have your homes air ducts completely cleaned out every three years.
7. Air out your home, regularly allow fresh air from the outdoors in. The air in your home is four times as polluted as the air outside.
There are many simple changes your can make to limit the amount of toxins in your environment and therefore you body. Any steps you make will have positive effects on your over all health and thus how you age.
